... I'm still a little curious about what it does. But not nearly enough to buy it.
[monika can go first!! would you believe me if i said i had this memory picked out for sweet ylfa since last week. help. anyway-- a pig suddenly busts into the joint and bum rushes them, locking both of them inside a barrier.
and then... a memory (5:42:02-5:50:12, cw: emeto/suicide, and ignore the player character's name) of walking into your clubroom, stumbling across your friend's corpse, and then destroying the world. sometimes, things happen. the ui aspects and music are all present, and for reference, this is what the protagonist looks like.]
[this memory scares her shitless, actually. there are some things here that are hard to understand; she doesn't really know what a video game is or what files are. but there are some aspects of this that are easier to understand, too, once she begins talking.
she's scared by this. empathy can come later this week, when she truly understands how desperately alone monika was. but she can't bring herself to judge or hate monika, either.]
Most people here don't know about them. The people on the other side. I didn't know you did.
At least, the people on the other side are really fucking scary. My friend looked at them once, and they're just, uh. I don't know. It's too weird to think I could be talking to one of them.
I just figure everybody here is like us but don't know it.
[gazes at my last tag.... i sure did start typing one sentence and then finished with another. help.]
... Yes, I think so. The people on the other side interact with our worlds through avatars all the time, so even if our friends aren't real real... they could be someone else's window into this reality. Though, it's not like I have the right permissions to check the script.
[sweet ylfa who doesn't know what a video game is won't get this, but. she shakes her head.]
I'm sure there are some people on the other side who are awful. But they're not all like that. The one who played my game was sweet. He just wanted to be part of our world, and I... ruined it.
[this conversation is just making her sad, because she doesn't agree. they don't care about us. she doesn't think they care at all.
but she does hear that monika is sorry for what she did, and ylfa - well, she feels sorry for those girls. not this boy who has a whole life on the other side, but the girls who didn't get the chance to wake up the way monika did but still didn't deserve to suffer. so monika feeling remorse about it touches her a bit.]
...It makes people do really crazy things, when they find out. I don't think you're a ruiner.
[she is a little bit of a ruiner. the thing is, she is a little bit like the stepmother. a lot like her. but ylfa likes monika. she won't think that about her.
[oh, boy! so, that is a lot. ylfa, your self-esteem???? monika is quiet for a moment, trying to decide what would be tactful to comment on first, before she eventually settles on...]
So, you and Gerard have been dealing directly with the authors. No wonder you're so spooked by the people on the other side.
[she sighs heavily, because that's a rough memory in a lot of ways, but the lore isn't as much.]
Mother Goose saw them, and whatever he saw, it really scared him. But I haven't seen them. Maybe - maybe some of them are nice, and do care about us. [she isn't really convinced by this. but monika's author is probably nice. he probably didn't do anything like delete her so he could go play sayori's route.] But it's - I mean, it's more complicated. We know people who want to kill them, but that's definitely not going to solve our problems. That will definitely make our problems worse.
Our hope is just that we can get enough control over the ink that we can write different endings than the ones they picked out for us, and maybe we can make it so they can't interfere with us anymore.
I think it's really, really cool that you tried to find a way to write an ending for yourself, Monika. In our world, you'd be like...the most powerful witch ever, maybe even almost as powerful as the Baba Yaga. I hope that doesn't come across as mean. The witches I've met have all been pretty cool.
To be honest... I doubt it. I personally think my creator laughed it all up at the miserable excuse for an existence that my friends and I lived through. But, I think, there's a distinction between a reader and an author. If you were dealing with your creators, then I understand why you're so wary of the people on the other side.
[says monika, like her player totally didn't delete her so he could go play sayori's route.]
... Almost as powerful as your role model? I'm flattered, really. I don't think I'd mind being called a witch if it means getting to write my own ending. Everyone should have the power to do that.
... You'll get there. It totally ruins the tension if the heroes don't at least stand a chance to succeed, you know?
[going by story logic, anyway...]
I don't know yet. I want to live, but I don't want to go back. So if it's an option at all... I'd like to go somewhere else. I want to start a new life in another world.
Though our stories might get erased, or the fairies might force us to go back to the happy endings we don't want, or we might just be stuck in a loop of stories that all have unhappy endings and are being slowly eaten by my friend's mom...
That's really sweet of you to offer, Ylfa. But, um, I think I might just get in the way if you had to keep on eye on me while you're trying to save the world.
[her squishy ass would be dead so fast in the neverafter.]
Oh, not her. I can’t protect you from her at all! Looking at her is a little like looking at the Arthurs. It’s very scary and bad and she eats your grandma’s head off sometimes. She like, ate her daughters and a whole bunch of moms and stepmoms and stuff from other stories and got super powerful.
We’re just going to keep running for it if she shows up! It’s probably fine!

[YLFA, YOUR HOT DOGS...]
It's a little silly to spend the limited money we have on cursing ourselves, now that we know about it.

[anyway who do you want to memshare first.]

... Well, it's not something I like advertise it.
[unlike gerard and ylfa, she is not happy about being a fictional character at all. memshare week is hateful, thanks!]
Some of them could be the real deal, you know? They could be the people on the other side themselves. Or, at least, that's... what I want to believe.

[ylfa is. convinced otherwise.]
