yes, a song from a movie. it's about someone wanting to become human again. i also got a connection error when i tried. mizuki tried, too, but it was the same for her.
Edited (NVM it was apparently a typo damb) 2023-07-15 04:53 (UTC)
mind if i ask which lyrics? i'm not sure it matters but i just...am curious who was the sender this time? i haven't heard about anybody getting through yet and that's what still confuses me
not at all. just give me a minute to send a screenshot... i plan to keep replying just in case any of them go through. but where are these even coming from?? have you asked the reapers about them, jonas?
yeah he got it healed a little probably more tomorrow when things work better but ok cool
[ and he steps outside! he is lighting a cigarette, which is probably how he managed to slip out in the first place, but he nods a little at monika as she approaches. ]
...question for you. What's the last text message you heard about from people who've gone on special missions?
Just up to the week I went on a special mission. I meant to ask Netzach, but...
[then your teammate dies and the horrors start coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming]
Well, I'm a little behind. I assume you have all of them?
Yeah. Yeah, no, it's been...kind of a rough couple of weeks. The four of us have been fortunate enough that people just share stuff with us. [ he's pulling out his phone, scrolling through a notes app to show her the following: ]
it looks like they're really going for world erasure. they're really stubborn that way, aren't they? at least the winner can use their points to also bring others back to the realground, but i'm afraid i don't really think they'd be able to save too many unless they really work for it with how much it costs. what a shame, isn't it? i hope this group won't be anti-violence
That was last week's. This week, two messages came through. Both of them were, like, scrambled? When I saw Wolfwood earlier he'd unscrambled his and gave us the cipher, but somebody beat him to it. Kazuki got the message too.
[ scrolling a little down...he shows her the following: ]
after all, playing by their rules is unavoidable, and the only thing preventing any retaliation on their part is whether or not they feel it's worth the effort by that point. nothing is gained by blatantly defying them--even if it might be tempting to, with all the anomalies in this iteration of the reaper's game.

normally when players are erased, they are, for all intents and purposes, gone. kept around on some frequency, maybe, but less tangible or aware than even folktale ghosts.
which, of course, means that having them conscious elsewhere is very much not normal game protocol. not exactly against the rules, but those running the game wouldn t be pleased to find out. so, it s important to hide this from them, and to err on the side of caution when discussing anything that seems out of place.
...so you can see why I didn't want to discuss this via text. I think the messages go together, so that the last one goes first and then the one about playing by their rules is the other half of that.
I'm not sure. When I asked the Reapers about it a while ago, they said that erased meant erased, but...if it's because they're trying not to draw attention that could've been why they couldn't actually answer.
And that's why I wanted to see you in person. I wasn't sure I trusted sending this kind of stuff via network.
... It would also explain why Aika was so dismissive when I showed her the spam messages from Monday.
I wouldn't trust it either. If the higher ups learn about this, then the reapers could get in a lot of trouble and our friends would probably be erased for real.
Right. Plausible deniability. If they don't confirm that the messages are real or anything, then nobody can come after them. It makes sense to me.
[ ... ]
The question then is what do we do about it? I don't want the reapers to get busted for this, and I'm not taking a chance at actually erasing our Erased. But we got these messages for a reason, so it's...stupid not to figure out a new idea.
I don't know if it's just teammates or if it can be any Player. But...I wondered that myself. If people rushed for the points in order to bring people back. It makes sense doesn't it?
I can't either. We've been told over and over again there's no other good way to earn a lot of points. But at the same time, I think I can't blame people for being mad about the people we're losing, too.
So far there hasn't been a way to break the cycle of the game either. I don't know if I have a lot of hope of finding one by now either, but...some people are still holding onto that.
The higher ups are... incredibly powerful. And they're used to getting what they want one way or another. I doubt that'll change anytime soon, so the cycle continues.
Well...let's put a pin in it for now and try to get through tomorrow first before we get too far in figuring out how to overthrow the higher ups or something.

[this is a new level of stressful. hoo, boy.]
The first message— is it only referring bringing teammates back? Is that why so many people died today?

If that's the case... then I can't really say I blame them for wanting to gather as many points as possible.
